Live video from Hatfields Beach Baywatch camera
Check small trailer boat launch and retrieve conditions on the soft and shallow beach. The beach is protected from all but easterly winds. Ideal launching conditions are westerlies on a mid rising tide. You can semi beach your boat while parking your trailer and the sand is firm at the mid tide mark. The worse retrieve conditions are during an afternoon easterly sea breeze, coinciding with an incoming tide. Wave sets may cause your small boat to broach as you slowly approach the beach and to compound matters, lining up onto your trailer might cause concern. Meanwhile as the tide rises so does everyone's excitement. Your rear brake rotors and muffler might get wet in the delay which is not ideal. Be mindful of the rocks around the concrete boat ramp. You may not see them as they may be covered over with water. Generally, for the small boat it is best to launch off the beach, just north of the public toilets, which you can see on the other side of the road. AWD/4WD is a given. During summer don't go too far north as the sand does get soft. Soft enough to sink your vehicles wheels too far for a dignified recovery.
